Temanggung lies on the slope of mount Sindoro and Sumbing, is famous for its green gold or tobacco. With altitude between 500-1450 meter above sea level, this area is suitable for export commodity crops. Temanggung is situated by the main road connecting Yogyakarta-Dieng and Semarang-Dieng.
During Budhist “Waishak” day, sacred water is taken from the Jumprit pool. Other touris destination include Surodipuro fall, Pikatan Indah pool, Kartini garden, Perot temple, Gondosuli temple, and Sidukun pool. There is also the Bambang Sugeng monument and several trails to climb mount Sindoro and Sumbing.
Temanggung is also famous for its bamboo handicraft, copper, pottery, clothing industry, and the traditional sweet chewy banana called Sale Pisang. Traditional medicine herbs called Jamu is the product of Temanggung, in addition to natural honey, patchouli oil thick soy souce, and cigars. Silk worm farming is in Candiroto.
Temanggung is located in 110°23' - 110°46' East and 7°14' - 7°32' South. Distance between the northmost to the south is 34, 375 Km, east to west is 43.437 Km. Northern Temanggung borders with Kendal and Semarang, west with Wonosobo, south with Magelang, and east with Semarang and Magelang.
Average temperature in Temanggung district is 20°-30° Celcius all year round. Sites such as Tretep, Tembarak, Ngadirejo, and Candiroto are ideal for visitors looking for fresh cool mountain air.
Mount Sindoro is approximately 3.151 m high while mount Sumbing is 3.260 m high. Main rivers are: Waringin, Lutut, Elo, Progo, Kuas, Galeh and Tingkal.
